5 August 2008 ASL3310 is on the books for Fall 2008 semester, the first full UVU semester. Keep coming back to the ASL3310 site for more information (that site will change almost daily for the next two weeks so stay tuned). Anyone interested in a Facebook page?

11 December 2007 ASL3310 has concluded for the Fall 2007 semester. Thanks to all of the students in the Fall 2007 course; we had a good time. Assistant Professor Will Garrow will be teaching Section 601 of ASL3310 during Winter 2008 semester. Check with Dr. Eldredge (eldredbr at uvsc dot edu) or Professor Garrow (garrowwi at uvsc dot edu) for more details.

Classes I Teach

ASL3310: Introduction to Interpreting

This course is an introduction to bidirectional (ASL-to-English and English-to-ASL) interpreting between Deaf and nondeaf people. Upon completion, this course will help prepare candidates to take the Utah State and/or RID NIC written examination.

ASL3330: Cross-Cultural Communication and Interpretation

This course is a continuation of ASL 3310, but focuses more heavily on 1) interpreting with special emphasis on intercultural communication, and 2) the development of language understanding with respect to intercultural communication.

ASL3350: Consecutive Interpreting

This course introduces students to theory, skills, and processes required to produce consecutive interpretations and focuses on developing basic abilities required to interpret rehearsed and/or spontaneous texts.

ASL3360: Simultaneous Interpreting

This course focuses on transitioning students from consecutive interpreting approaches to time-limited simultaneous interpreting and continues focus on developing cognitive, semantic, and dual tasking abilities required to interpret spontaneous texts.
